4 Reasons to Stop Searching for the “Dream” Job And Enjoy A Life Outside of Work

When my ex broke up with me because, in his words:

“You don’t have your career figured.”

It crushed me.

According to him, I was failing at life because I hadn’t found my dream job or “passion” that I wanted to do until the early hours of the morning. Instead, I wanted to be sleeping in the early hours of the morning. According to him, this was problematic and indicated a lack of passion, drive, goals and determination which resulted in him blindsiding me with a traumatic breakup.

I felt like a major failure, immediately after the breakup. Overnight I lost my partner and I briefly believed his assessment of my life. I believed that I was failing because I had not found my dream job. Whatever the “dream” job is?

Does it even matter?

Apparently, to some people, it does. In the months after the breakup, I tried to make sense of his harsh and abrupt exit out and assessment of my life:
